Role Overview
AltoTech Global is looking for a Senior HVAC Controls & Optimization Engineer to design, develop, and deploy advanced control strategies for HVAC systems in commercial buildings across Thailand and Southeast Asia. You will work on air-handling units (AHUs), outdoor-air units (OAUs), fan-coil units (FCUs), and variable-air-volume (VAV) systems — where comfort, ventilation, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency come together.
Responsibilities
Design and implement HVAC control and optimization strategies such as supply-air temperature reset, duct static-pressure reset, trim-and-respond, demand-controlled ventilation, and humidity/comfort control.
Develop reliable control logic that holds up in real-world conditions — hot-humid climates, mixed equipment types, imperfect sensor data, and everyday operating constraints.
Build and maintain well-tested, observable software services that use live building data to develop, tune, and evaluate control algorithms.
Define safe operating limits and fallback behavior for situations like bad data, communication loss, failed commands, or unavailable equipment, so that automated commands stay safe, traceable, and easy to override.
Lead staged rollouts of new control strategies — from offline testing and shadow mode, through pilot sites, to full deployment — with clear success criteria, monitoring, and rollback plans.
Develop practical fault detection and diagnostics for common HVAC issues (e.g. stuck dampers, valve leaks, sensor drift, simultaneous heating/cooling, short cycling, economizer faults), with clear evidence, severity, and recommended action.
Own the roadmap and backlog for the Air-side product track, working closely with cross-functional engineering, deployment, and commissioning teams, and keep control sequences, tests, and documentation up to date.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Control, Energy, or a related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.
Typically 5+ years of experience in HVAC controls, building automation/management systems (BMS/BAS), or building energy optimization — or equivalent demonstrated depth.
Strong hands-on air-side HVAC knowledge (AHUs, FCUs, and VAV systems), including psychrometrics, ventilation, and humidity control.
Practical controls experience on real systems, including PID tuning, reset strategies, supervisory control, and failure handling.
At least one control strategy taken from design through live deployment and post-deployment validation.
Production-quality coding capability, Python preferred — able to turn a control algorithm into tested, maintainable code.
Experience analyzing time-series data for control performance and validation.
Good English communication skills, with the ability to work well with cross-functional technical teams.
Nice to Have
Practical knowledge of building automation protocols such as BACnet and Modbus, including point mapping and common failure modes.
Applied familiarity with ASHRAE Guideline 36 and Standards 55 and 62.1, especially in hot-humid climates.
Experience with model predictive control, constrained optimization, or fault-detection frameworks applied to real equipment.
Experience with multi-site controls deployments or measurement and verification (M&V) methods.
Experience with VRV/VRF systems, hotels, retail, or commercial buildings in Southeast Asia.
Thai language proficiency.
If you meet most of these requirements and can demonstrate strong depth in either HVAC controls or production software, we encourage you to apply.
Expectations
Air-side algorithms are operating at multiple production sites with verified energy impact and agreed comfort, indoor-air-quality, equipment, and safety constraints maintained.
Every deployed algorithm has defined operating limits, fallback behavior, monitoring, and a validated rollback path.
Air-side diagnostics identify actionable problems with controlled false alarms, often before customers report them.
The Air-side track has clear priorities, predictable releases, and a maintainable codebase.
