Role Overview
AltoTech Global is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with strong HVAC expertise—especially installation and testing & commissioning (T&C)— to ensure large building systems are installed, started, tuned, and performing to spec. The role requires solid mechanical fundamentals and a basic understanding of building control systems (BMS/BAS) for point checks, sequence verification, and trending.
Responsibilities
Equipment installation readiness
Verify placement, alignment, vibration isolation, and mounting of chillers, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs/FCUs, valves/actuators, and VSD interfaces.
Check mechanical/electrical nameplate data, rotation, lubrication, and pre-start conditions per vendor IOMs.
Electrical & controls hookup (basic scope)
Perform wiring/terminal checks between equipment, MCC/VSD, and controls panels; verify safeties/interlocks and I/O per drawings.
Confirm BACnet/Modbus point availability with controls teams; validate sensor orientation and calibration basics.
Start-up & functional testing
Execute start-up procedures; test safeties (flow, ΔP, temperature limits), interlocks, and alarms.
Verify sequences at a basic level (schedules, setpoint/temperature resets, staging/lead–lag logic).
Performance checks
Trend and record ΔT, flow, supply/return temps, pressures, kW (with support for kW/ton/COP where applicable).
Run short functional tests and acceptance tests (FAT/SAT) and log pass/fail with corrective actions.
Troubleshooting
Diagnose common field issues (sensor drift, actuator travel, VSD parameterization, unstable loops, air/entrainment in circuits) and coordinate fixes.
Documentation & compliance
Maintain commissioning plans, ITPs, checklists, redlines/as-builts, test sheets, and SAT reports.
Follow LOTO and site safety; protect equipment during transitions to live operation.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s (or Master’s) in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (or related).
Experience
3+ years hands-on HVAC installation and T&C in large commercial/industrial buildings.
Proven field work on chillers, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs/FCUs, VSDs, valves/actuators, and common HVAC sensors.
Technical Skills
Read/interpret P&IDs, control schematics, I/O schedules, and vendor submittals.
Proficient with field instruments: clamp meter, anemometer, manometer/pressure gauge, temperature/humidity probes, ultrasonic/portable flow meter, data logger.
Basic BMS/BAS understanding and familiarity with BACnet/Modbus sufficient for point checks, alarms, and trend verification (no advanced programming required).
Ability to set/verify operating setpoints, deadbands, and alarm thresholds aligned with equipment limits.
Soft Skills
Methodical, safety-first, detail-oriented; disciplined in test records and punch-list closure.
Clear, concise technical reporting and effective communication with site teams.
Nice to Have
Experience with acceptance testing/TAB (air or water) and practical M&V/energy audits.
Exposure to chilled-water plant optimization and sequence tuning with controls engineers.
Familiarity with simple dashboards/trending tools for performance monitoring.
